Media and the McCann’s
September 7, 2007I have a daughter the same age as Madeleine McCann. My daughter started school this week Madeleine didn’t. I’ve tried to ignore the story for the last few weeks, little girls being taken from their beds is something from my nightmares. But more than once I’ve found myself checking to see if my daughter is still in her bed in the last 4 months.
However reading the papers today although they are still defending Kate and Gerry McCann at the moment, you can tell there is a undercurrant of delight that finally they are being accused of murdering their child and the ’story’ is moving. I just find this totally disgusting, the Portuguese hardly have a decent track record of accusing people - see poor Robert Murat (wonky eye, bit odd, has an internet account and a daughter - bingo must be him!)
What no one is saying, is that Kate and Gerry have basically out done the press at their own game and now they are going to pay for it. I don’t think that if you have murdered your 4 year old you are going to start a world wide campaign to get her back, meet with the Pope, British Prime Minister, have meetings with US Senators, et al, also where the hell would you hide the body and dispose of it considering you’re being followed 24/7 by the media??. But they are educated, very religious doctors who had the ‘perfect’ life and now the press here will be out for them, if for no other reason than newspaper sales.
Oddly if this had happened in the UK they would have already been tried by the press months ago for leaving the children the first place (which in anyone’s book was bloody stupid) but the lack of information and incompetence shown by the Portuguese police is just stunning.
