Macbook Power Supply

March 23, 2008

How bloody annoying my macbook mag power supply cable has split. I had no idea how’s it’s happened other than maybe it’s gotten caught somehow?  But it’s in one specific place and you can see the metal underneath and GH saw it sparking earlier - which is a bit scary :(

I can’t seem to find a replacement in the Apple Store website and there are only some slightly dodgy looking ones on Ebay. GH seems to think they are about £70, if that is the case then I’m using his from now on and it can wait until I have another job/make some more money.

Object of Lust: Macbook Air

January 15, 2008

Oh crap! I’ve only had my Macbook for a few months and those evil bastards at Apple announce the release of the Macbook Air today.

Macbook Air

Here’s the spec:

3 lbs., 0.16″-.76″ thickness, a 13.3″ fullsize display, full size keyboard (backlit), multi-touch gestures, iSight camera, 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB of memory, 80GB hard drive (64GB SSD optional), 802.11n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and Magsafe connector, flip down door (with USB 2, Micro-DVI, and headphone jack), built in 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR.

Although not stunningly different from the spec of my Macbook (other than the new trackpad features), it’s really beautiful. I look forward to seeing one in the flesh at the Apple Store.

The other big announcement was the software upgrade for the iPhone (v1.3). I’m off to upgrade my software now and see what happens :)

iphone

August 20, 2007

I was lucky enough yesterday to play with an iphone (thanks to the lovely Vero) and although I had been skeptical about them (well it’s a phone and I’ve been disappointed for so long with just about every phone in the last 5 years)…..however it’s bloody brilliant!!

It’s so easy to use and the functionality is just amazing, the screen quality is really clear and large enough to read the web with ease. The camera which I’d had doubts about isn’t up to the quality of the N73 or N95’s but it’s about 5 times faster at taking pictures and although the quality of the lens isn’t all there, I could live with it. Here’s a shot of iphoto on it:

If you are reading a web page in portrait and want to read it in landscape, all you do is turn it round an automatically it follows your hand and changes. However the perfect app for it is Google Maps, it just works so well and it’s easy to zoom in and out just by opening and closing your fingers on it.

Hopefully this will give Nokia and the others the kick in the ass they need to start producing decent web phones, rather than the crap they have been producing for 10 year olds.

All in all I’ll be buying one, I’ll happily break my contract for it - just brilliant!

Catching up.

August 9, 2007

I haven’t posted for ages sorry! Work has been manic which means when I’ve been getting home, I’ve generally been collapsing in a big heap and just wanting to play with my computer.

Facebook has been my new shiny of choice, it’s been really nice catching up with some of my friends who I’ve not talked to in an age. We’re all in our 30’s with careers, husband and children who suck 90% of our time. Facebook has been a godsend in that I can send someone a poke to let them know I’ve been thinking of them, or drop a message on a wall seeing if they can have lunch the following week - LOVE Facebook!!

But my main reason for this post is to shout out my love for my new Mac. Dearest hubby bought me one as my old windows laptop was 5 years old and the screen only worked if you punched a part of the keyboard - LOL!

Now you have to understand I have spent the last 10 years supporting Microsoft desktops and servers in one version or another of Microsoft - there are few things I’ve not seen one do to self- destruct over the years. However for all the faults, I’m very fond of Microsoft. It’s like an old car that you know all it’s faults and you know how to keep running.

So I’ve never really felt the need to have a Mac. Hubby had one from his last job and whenever I used it to try and surf the web quickly or just print something out it frustrated the hell out of me. I’d shout at it and then not use it again for another 6 months.

So imagine how shocked I was when he started his new job, got a new Mac and created me my own account that he hadn’t screwed about with….I started falling in love with Macs…I felt dirty and ashamed I was cheating on my knackered old laptop ;)

Then last week my lovely man bought me my very own MacBook and I’ve not turned it off since :) So here are the pros and cons so far I’ve found.

Pro’s
The MacBook is faster than my work Dell laptop which is comproble
She’s prettier
PhotoBooth is just a genius app
Bluetooth is great and simpler than on PC’s
Everything so far has been fairly easy to grasp.
I really love it!

Cons
Networking more than one PC is a fucking nightmare! Maybe it’s because I know MS off by heart but I can’t for the life of me get this connected to my old PC to pull everything off.
Finder is a bit pants - know by heart I can’t use anymore..bugging me a bit but that will change.

So all in all I’m a happy girl and I even want a new iMac now as a home media server - woo hoo!

Mac Photo Booth

May 18, 2007

LOL! How much fun is this? What a great app, the whole family have just been playing with it for an hour and the picture quality isn’t bad. Why don’t PC’s do this? I think I may be turning to the ‘dark side’…
