And the new series of Dr Who starts - hurray!!
My ‘alleged’ daughter hates Dr Who (she’s 5 and supposed to *love* it like the rest of the family!) So I’m breaking out the Ben and Jerry’s Cookie Dough ice cream, I’ve made her a camp in our bedroom and she can watch as much ‘Rough Science’ as she likes, so I can have some peace and quiet.
Anyway here is a picture of the lovely David Tennant…..well just because

Now for some reason I’d kind of forgotten that this was going to be on? Work and Christmas Shopping have seriously been getting the way of my Christmas TV planning. Like all Brits of a certain age, I need a Radio Times and a highlighter pen to plan Christmas
However today I came across this very fabby article in The Times written by fellow Dr Who Addict Caitlin Moran which reminded me it was on and actually made it sound like Kylie was actually going to be good and not a Christmas gimmick. And then I found the full Christmas Trailer on the BBC YouTube mini site and it does look AMAZING! Check the trailer here
Also David Tennant is looking rather gorgeous

Well I wasn’t too sure about this, and I like Catherine Tate’s show. However I then remembered the last 10 - 15 minutes of the Christmas episode and she was really good. So I’ll have faith in RTD and see what happens….

Captain Jack is back and how! How fantastic was Dr Who tonight?!? Russell T Davis has finally pulled his finger out and written a brilliant story arc. There was the humanity (the exchange between Martha and the alien, and Jack and the Dr ) and humour (Jack and everyone) that made the series such a hit in the first place and has been sadly lacking in this series of Dr Who and I’m sad to say Torchwood.
John Barrowman was a joy as the flirty ‘Omnisexual’ Jack, he showed the charm and sexiness that has been lacking in Torchwood’s Captain Jack. If he’d been written like that in Torchwood the series would have been so much better received.
I really wanted to like Torchwood and I did stick with it to the end, but the characters were just lacked any charm and were unlikeable. Yes I know it wasn’t aimed at kids (no shit!) but Gwen was a good character, as was Owen - shame about Ianto and Toshiko who both frankly should have been killed off in the first 4 episodes.
Derek Jacobi was great in ‘Who’ tonight and the transformation into John Simm was just great - I’m so psyched for the next two episodes. I love John Simm as an actor and I can’t wait for him to be evil as ‘The Master’ - Vote Saxon
If only the rest of the series had been as good…..

Oh my what a totally fantastic episode of Dr Who last night and David Tenant was hardly in it. However of course the scenes he was in - he was perfectly charismatic.
Steven Moffat is IMHO one of the best British TV Writers in the last 20 years. I was obsessed with ‘Press Gang’ as a kid - who the hell writes like that for children anymore? It was witty, sexy and intelligent, the cast was perfect and it was a joy to watch. The only children’s programme to win my mother over into coming home early from work!
Anyway enought of that. Steven Moffat the Dr Who years…thanks Russell for getting him in. He’s written 4 of the best episodes:
“Doctor Who” (4 episodes, 2005-2007)
- Blink (2007) TV Episode (written by)
- The Girl in the Fireplace (2006) TV Episode (written by)
- The Doctor Dances (2005) TV Episode (written by)
- The Empty Child (2005) TV Episode (written by)
How brilliant were all those episodes? The Empty Child was heartbreaking and scary as hell - not to mention the first appearance of Captain Jack (thanks!!). The Girl in the Fireplace was one of my all time favourite ever Who episodes.
Blink was great, scary, funny and what a great companion the girl who played Sally Sparrow would have been. I’m now scared of stone statues - how bloody scary were they? ;) Nice to see it back to form!
PS. Please, please can Steven Moffat write an episode of Torchwood???

Woo hoo, Dr Who is finally back on form
An excellent first part and how lovley to see the kid from ‘Love Actually’ and Jessica Stevenson in it - we must rewatch Spaced!. David Tenant was as charming as ever - so cute! I’m looking forward to next week’s episode, to see how it concludes.
Now where the hell is the episode they trailered 3 weeks ago - I want Captain Jack and John Simms!!!!! Does anyone else think that John Simms could be the new Dr? Or just me and the hubby?
Oh, oh, oh and is the baby in next weeks episode born to The Dr and Matron going to grow up to be Captain Jack? It would explain a lot….
