Hmmmm

June 9, 2008

The new iPhone…..

3G, hmmm whatever - The Edge is actually quite fast as there is never anyone on it!  But I can see the attraction.

GPS - excellent news and it looks very cool

New Apps - woo hoo! And I can get those on mine.

Lower price - good news so more people can escape the crap that is all the other phones :)

Oh and it comes in white?!?!  :)  But still it kicks ass in any incarnation, so check it out if you couldn’t afford it before, they really are wonderful.

But where is the Apple TV news?……

Apple Keynote Speech Today

June 9, 2008

Here are the things I’d spend our family’s ‘Jobs Tax’ on:

  1. Apple TV with a huge hard drive for the new Apple Movie Content -  a terra or two would be good as more HD movies come online.
  2. More TV and Movie Content - it’s not bad but needs to be expanded and rapidily.  Doing a deal with the BBC’s iplayer in the UK would be fabby!
  3. iPhone….I actually not that arsed about upgrading, I love my iPhone to death and I don’t live in a 3G area, so unless it’s got lots of interesting and new features…naaaa don’t care.
  4. iPhone software from iTunes - YES, YES,YES - can’t wait :)
  5. iPods…again not that bothered but it’s always interesting to see what they do with them next.
  6. New MacBook - I want to see how sexy it’s going to be and then cry, I still want the Air….

Roll on this evening to see what’s announced.

Macbook Power Supply

March 23, 2008

How bloody annoying my macbook mag power supply cable has split. I had no idea how’s it’s happened other than maybe it’s gotten caught somehow?  But it’s in one specific place and you can see the metal underneath and GH saw it sparking earlier - which is a bit scary :(

I can’t seem to find a replacement in the Apple Store website and there are only some slightly dodgy looking ones on Ebay. GH seems to think they are about £70, if that is the case then I’m using his from now on and it can wait until I have another job/make some more money.

iPhone Software Update

January 15, 2008

It’s good, really good…

The being able to customize your ‘desktop’ is very very cool, the wiggling icons are a very nice touch, and I’ve finally got rid of stocks and shares (who uses that?!?)

The ‘GPS’ triangulation is absolutely bloody fabulous!  It got me within about 3 streets, which will come in very handy next time I get lost driving across the fens or Norfolk.  I’ve tried to get the ‘Show Traffic/Hide Traffic’ information working but it doesn’t seem to but maybe that’s just o2 being crap?  I’ll play with it more tomorrow and see if that’s working better then.

Finally they have added group sms, which I’ve been whinging about since I got my iPhone.  I’d still like to be able to sms out my photos as well as e-mail them, but that is a minor gripe.

One word of warning, when it’s finished upgrading and has re-booted, it loses the o2 network.  So you then have to manually reboot it and reconnect it to your mac or pc and it finds the network again (phew!)

Object of Lust: Macbook Air

January 15, 2008

Oh crap! I’ve only had my Macbook for a few months and those evil bastards at Apple announce the release of the Macbook Air today.

Macbook Air

Here’s the spec:

3 lbs., 0.16″-.76″ thickness, a 13.3″ fullsize display, full size keyboard (backlit), multi-touch gestures, iSight camera, 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB of memory, 80GB hard drive (64GB SSD optional), 802.11n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and Magsafe connector, flip down door (with USB 2, Micro-DVI, and headphone jack), built in 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR.

Although not stunningly different from the spec of my Macbook (other than the new trackpad features), it’s really beautiful. I look forward to seeing one in the flesh at the Apple Store.

The other big announcement was the software upgrade for the iPhone (v1.3). I’m off to upgrade my software now and see what happens :)

It’s probably called ‘Done One’ on the entry for the BC Filming List this is the entry for current filming:

iphone review

November 9, 2007

I had great time in the queue outside Carphone Warehouse, it was a good laugh. Of course their system crashed at 6.04 and I’m really hoping that the 20 odd times they swiped my card didn’t go through to my account! ::GULP::

Anyway….

Ok I’ve had my hands on it for 2 hours and so far all good. The screen is amazing, the keyboard is good once you get used to it. Synching is easy as anything and the camera although not as good quality as the Nokia is very quick.

I love that I can now set my alarm for the weekdays only, something Nokia seemed to stop doing ages ago! Calendar, E-mail and the web are just superb! Intuitive and just simple - brilliant stuff!

However and I could be wrong so correct me if I am, things I don’t like:

1. No video! I can’t record a damn thing, yes You Tube looks good on it - but not much bloody use if I can’t shoot anything.

2. I want to send out a mass SMS to everyone to tell them I have changed my number and I can’t seem to find a way to do it. If anyone knows how - let me know!!

3. Bluetooth…Apple I’d like to connect to my Macbook at the very least - sort it!

iPhone Day is here

November 9, 2007

So I’ve just been down to my local Carphone Warehouse to find that apparently they have ‘lost’ 20 iphone units, bring down the available units to buy to about 30.  Now I live in a *very* small town and I was hoping that there weren’t going to be too many interested people…..apparently they have had over 100 enquiries….I might not get one! ::SOB::

So now I’m leaving work at 3pm to go and queue….and it’s cold!

iPhone in the UK

September 18, 2007

As you’ve probably read the iphone is going to be launched in the UK on the 9th November. I’ve already contacted Carphone Warehouse about breaking my contract from Vodaphone and moving over to O2 :)

iphone

I know there isn’t any 3G on the phone, but where I live you can’t get 3G anyway and I’ve never actually found it to be that fast when I’ve been in London or Cambridge.   But you can get onto Cloud in my home town and I really want it for the wireless round the house and at friends.

However the main reason for getting it is the price of the contract.  At the moment I’m paying for my N73 (which is constantly blue screening and dropping calls) £35 a month for 300 minutes, 100 texts plus £7.50 a month for the data package and about £1.50 for voice mail on Vodaphone.

O2 is offering  a £35 package for 20 minutes talk time, 20 texts and Unlimited data!! oh and free voice mail.  So it’ll save me about £9 a month and at least the bloody phone won’t crash every 3rd hour.

The only thing that really puts me off is the resolution of the camera, but I think I can live with it.  The pictures  I took on Vero’s pre-release phone were pretty good and much quicker than the Nokia.  And the rest of the functionality I think is worth it.

Wish me luck on breaking my contract!
