NBC are Morons

February 3, 2008

Okay I know I’m about 18 months behind the rest of the world, but thanks to the wonders of DVD boxsets I’ve just started watching ‘Studio 60′.  Well actually I started watching it on More 4 a couple of months back, but it was on at 11pm and the skyplus failed on every single second episode - random power failures that only seemed to happen when ‘Studio 60′ was on!?!?

So my lovely husband has bought me the boxset as I’d been going on and on about the 4 episodes I’d seen previously.  We started watching it Friday night and he’s hooked as well now :)  Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford are just a joy to watch, the script is witty and intelligent and the supporting cast are all wonderful actors.  Sarah Paulson is such a stand out I really hope she has gotten so good roles from her work in this. She turned Harriet from being someone who was potentially very unlikeable into a really smart charming one.

Here is a classic moment between Matt and Harriet

It’s currently on sale at Amazon for £36 if you fancy treating yourself to something good.

So I am stunned, why the hell was this canceled??  It was far better than The West Wing and The Sopranos which I agree both had some good moments went on long after they should have been canceled. Medium although I like it, why on earth is it still on?  And don’t even get me started on ‘Americas Top Model’ or any of that crap.

I suppose we are lucky here in the UK,  Torchwood frankly sucks as much as I hate to say it.  I just loathe all the characters, with the exception of Jack.  If Tosh or Ianto died in it I’d be delighted , neither can act and the scripts just aren’t there.  But you just know we have another 2 series of this coming because they give a series time to find it’s audience.

Although a far superior series ‘Life on Mars’ would never have survived on US TV, much like ‘Firefly’ didn’t, if there isn’t an in built audience then they are interested in creating one.

Anyway NBC are morons and they can carry on showing ER forever…good luck with that.

  1. How refreshing to know I’m not alone. TV in this good ole USA stinks!!!!!!! We must all be numb brains to even tune into such slop, but alas I am one of the minority or so it seems. Since Studio 60 was cancelled I haven’t watch Network TV. Just wanted to say I was thrilled to read your post. I own the box set of Studio 60 myself. I watched the first 2 epsisodes so far and I can’t believe this show was cancelled. It’s even better the second time around. What an exceptional cast. NBC should be ashamed of themselves. In my mind NBC now stands for Nothing But Crap!

  3. I’m so pleased we’re not the only ones that loved it! Thank god for DVD Box Sets or I’d never have gotten to see the entire series. I admit we have our fair share of crap here, but a decent series does get more than one series to get it established it does have to be really dire to only get one series.

I hope this turns into one of those programmes - like ‘Firefly’ the becomes huge because of the DVD sales! I look forward to my second viewing now. Thanks for posting! :)
